Timo Glock has been confirmed as Manor GP’s first driver ahead of the 2010 season. The German, had been linked with a drive at Renault or Mercedes, although the latest signing places another piece of the driver jigsaw into position.
Glock’s confirmation at Manor did not arrive with predicted news of a Virgin sponsorship deal for the outfit; the German’s confirmation also means, therefore, that the Renault seat alongside Robert Kubica is still vacant.
The signing of Timo Glock for its first season in the sport shows that development progress is being made by Manor GP ahead of 2010. He joins from the deceased Toyota team and hopes to mould the English squad around him, with a rookie driver likely to be racing alongside.
"The fact that he has come and seen all aspects of the project before making his decision speaks volumes about what we have achieved so far," Technical Director Nick Wirth commented. "Progress on our new car continues to be very encouraging. The first fully-finished monocoque was completed a week ago and we’ve been crash testing all areas of the car since May.
"I think we’ll have the bulk of the official FIA tests done by Christmas, bang on our schedule. Now we just can’t wait to get Timo into the new car once track testing begins next year."
And I’ll bet that, after being sidelined since his accident at Suzuka, neither can Timo!
