It would seem that Bernie Ecclestone’s intervention to assist the struggling Hispania Racing outfit might have just paid off, with rumours that the Mercia-based squad will forge an alliance with Toyota’s now-defunct F1 outfit.
Italy’s 422race.com claims that HRT will sign the deal “in the next few days” after an apparently lengthy negotiation.
The rumoured deal will see the team gain use of the Cologne HQ, staff and designs of the never-before-raced Toyota TF110 car – something which will no doubt infuriate Stefan GP, which came very close to running the package before its last-minute entry was rejected by the FIA.
As part of supporting the bid, Toyota is reportedly hiring specialist engineers via ad placements in specialist motoring magazines.
