The FIA has unveiled a record 21-race calendar for the 2012 championship season

The 2012 championship season calendar – featuring a record 21-round schedule – has been released by the FIA after yesterday’s meeting of the World Motor sport Council.

The provisional schedule shows all twenty of this year’s races are retained, with the new addition being the United States Grand Prix, which will make a return to the sport with its first appearance at the new circuit at Austin, which will occur a week after the Canadian Grand Prix during the North American summer.

The calendar features six pairs of back-to-back races where the Grands Prix occur just a week apart. The Turkish Grand Prix has a “subject to confirmation” annotation.
