Mark Webber has vaulted Red Bull to top spot in final practice for the Hungarian Grand Prix

Mark Webber has deposed Lewis Hamilton’s title of the fastest man in Hungary this weekend, with the Australian edging out the two-time Budapest winner for top spot in today’s final practice session, which precedes the all-important qualifying session for the Hungarian Grand Prix.

With Red Bull Racing having had a quiet day of running in the two Friday practice sessions, the Milton Keynes team turn its first turn at the sharp end of the timesheets, with Webber’s team-mate Sebastian Vettel finishing the one-hour session third-fastest.

Hamilton, as ever, was in the mix, and clocked the second-fastest time of the session, a mere 0.093 seconds off Webber’s fastest time, which was unusually posted early in the session.

Bruno Senna showed that his Friday afternoon pace was no fluke with the fourth-fastest effort in his Williams. The Brazilian wound up ahead of a Ferrari-Lotus sandwich, with Fernando Alonso, Kimi Räikkönen, Romain Grosjean and Felipe Massa completing the top-eight, ahead of Paul di Resta and Jenson Button.

In a session that saw the fastest 14 drivers covered by less than one second, neither Mercedes driver made any impression on the timesheets – Michael Schumacher was 17th and Nico Rosberg 18th – as both seemed to concentrate on higher-fuel runs.

Qualifying gets underway at 14:00 local time.
