Nico Rosberg has beaten Lewis Hamilton to top the sheets at the end of the final practice session in Spain.

Rosberg was 0.8s clear of Hamilton; however Hamilton failed to post a time on the medium compound tyre, suggesting that he is still the fastest Mercedes driver this weekend.

A mixed day for Ferrari saw Alonso complete the top three 1.3s behind Rosberg,    while Raikkonen could only manage 14th.

Plenty of drivers struggled with grip throughout the session, with a few exploring  the limits of the track due to either an imbalance of the car or the low track  temperatures taking away grip from the tyres.

Williams and Red Bull decided to stay in the garage for more than half the session  – Red Bull only coming out for an installation lap. One can only assume their  reasoning is the track temperature not being representative of what they’ll face in qualifying.

The track temperature during FP3 hovered around 29 degrees, whilst in qualifying it’s expected to exceed 40 degrees.

Red Bull finished the session further down than expected, possibly due to traffic during their final laps. Williams fared a bit better as Massa finished in fourth while Bottas came in 11th.

Lotus impressed once again as Grosjean ended the session in 5th position, beating the likes of Button and Vettel and finishing 1.8s off the session’s best time.

Chilton was in the wars again today, suffering the same excursion off the track as yesterday. For a second time he locked his front left and veered off into the gravel trap at Turn 5, again beaching his car. On a positive note he did manage to finish half a second in front of team-mate Bianchi.
