History was made in earnest at the Bathurst 1000; young stars had breakout years; but the undisputed star of the V8 Supercars Championship was crowned the title-winner once again: the 2014 season once again delivered outstanding on-track action to again affirm its status as one of the world’s best touring car championships.
When a spectacular season began drawing to a close, the focus shifted to Jamie Whincup’s inevitable shot at immortality and when he would become the first six-time series champion in Australian touring car history. The Red Bull Racing driver had once again vanquished his opposition, taking advantage of a consistent run – and a little bit of luck – to close out the title with one round to go.
His closest challengers came from teammate Craig Lowndes, along with Ford’s Mark Winterbottom and TEKNO Holden’s Shane van Gisbergen, but all three were left to lick their wounds after slip-ups at crucial moments ensured Whincup would again be the winner.
It wasn’t all Whincup’s show, however. The first thirteen races saw eight different race-winners and it looked as though the championship fight was wide open until Whincup started a run of six wins in the nine races spanning Hidden Valley to Queensland Raceway.
The year produced rising stars in young Kiwis Scott McLaughlin and van Gisbergen, while young Ford ace Chaz Mostert came from last place on the grid to win a thrilling Bathurst 1000, leading only on the last half of the last lap of the race.
The 2014 V8 Supercars Season Highlights DVD celebrates the highs and lows of the season over three hours of excellently-produced, well-edited highlights, including the best on-track action from all rounds of the championship.
Aside from outstanding highlights of a thrilling championship, the DVD also features a number of news, interviews and profile spot pieces ahead of many of the races – helping to shift the view’s focus away from the battle at the front of the field and give a picture of some of the more interesting stories of the season.
Mirroring the 2013 season review DVD, another big tick was the inclusion of the final laps of each of the major endurance race events, with the best being the final laps of an ‘edge of the seat’ Bathurst 1000.
This is a ‘must have’ addition to the collection of any V8 Supercars Championship fan.
