Toro Rosso driver Max Verstappen said he was amused at comments directed towards him by Lotus F1 driver Pastor Maldonado.

Maldonado, running an alternate strategy to Verstappen, caught the teenager late in the race and was forced to fight for seventh place, eventually coming out on top.

Normally, one would expect that fighting for a position in Formula 1 is a normal occurrence, however, Maldonado felt that Verstappen went too far in his defensive driving.

“He was a bit… let’s say not aggressive, but he wasn’t really respecting the rules,” Maldonado told Autosport.

“You must leave some space for the other car and he was not respecting that.”

Verstappen said that he had not spoken to Maldonado after the race, other than saying “good job”.

“It’s quite funny that Pastor said that. It’s the only thing I say about it, it’s quite funny,” Verstappen said after hearing Maldonado’s comments.
