Lewis Hamilton has finished the second practice session ahead of the two Red Bulls of Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen as his teammate was sidelined with a water leak.

Hamilton posted a 1:31.660 on the soft compound tyre to clear Ricciardo’s best time by just under four-tenths of a second. Third-placed Verstappen was a further two and a half tenths behind.

Nico Rosberg failed to make it out to the second practice session as a water leak disrupted his running. The water leak then became a bigger issue for the German when the team was forced to take the floor off his Mercedes to complete more thorough checks, which left Rosberg without completing any race simulations.

The two Ferrari cars finished in fourth and fifth place, with Sebastian Vettel nine-tenths of a second off the pace while his teammate Kimi Raikkonen was a further tenth of a second down in fifth. Ferrari split their race simulation between their drivers, sending Vettel out on the medium compound while Raikkonen was handed the hard compound. Both drivers then switched to the softs towards the end of the session.

Fernando Alonso stuck his McLaren in the top ten in fifth position, finishing close to half a second ahead of Williams’ Valtteri Bottas and teammate Jenson Button.

Felipe Massa found himself well off the pace in 10th position and over two seconds adrift Hamilton’s benchmark.

Neither of the Williams cars showed any signs of competitive race pace, as Bottas and Massa were consistently lapping over a second slower than their rivals Red Bull and Ferrari.

Toro Rosso was another team to struggle for pace and grip around Silverstone, as Carlos Sainz couldn’t do better than 11th position, while Daniil Kvyat had trouble keeping his car on the track when he spun at Club corner and damaged his front wing on the kerb.
