Mercedes has announced the launch date of its 2017 challenger with the team to unveil the car on 23 February at Silverstone.

The reigning world champions will present the new W08 one day before Ferrari reveals their 2017 car at Fiorano, where the Scuderia will complete two filming days to get some mileage on the car before pre-season testing.

Mercedes will also use one of their filming days to run their car around the Silverstone circuit. Teams are permitted two filming days that cannot exceed 100km per day during a season to meet sponsorship requirements.

While the Brackley squad are pressing on with the preparation of the new car, Mercedes are still in need of a second driver for the season after Nico Rosberg’s shock retirement.

Favourite Valtteri Bottas is expected to be announced to partner Lewis Hamilton for the 2017 season while discussions continue between Mercedes and Bottas’ current employer Williams.

The Finn made a secret visit to the Mercedes factory before Christmas, where he allegedly tested the cockpit for his seating position and ran through technical preparations with the team’s engineers.
