Someone turns 44 today!

Happy birthday to Eddie Irvine! The former Jordan, Ferrari and Jaguar man and one-time championship contender hits 44 years’ young today.

It’s amazing to consider it was 7 years’ ago that he last raced in F1 and over 10 years’ ago since his first and last race wins.

I still remember his race debut in 1993 for Jordan at the Suzuka circuit, when he got smacked in the mouth by Ayrton Senna for his no-holes-barred driving (listen also for a classic Murrayism at about the 1:15 mark!):

He was a great character on the F1 scene, and while not many may have agreed with his views, he could always guarantee a great sound-bite for the waiting F1 media. It’s a shame that fewer of today’s drivers are so stifled by the bland publisocrap statements and don’t follow his examples of free speech and opinions.

What’s your favourite memory of Eddie?
