American driver Jonathan Summerton has confirmed he is in talks with the Cypher Group, an American outfit hoping to break into the Formula 1 ranks next year.
In the wake of the demise of the farcical USF1 concern, it was announced in May that the Cypher Group – comprising a host of investors and former F1 personnel – was bidding to create a US-based F1 team. Cypher has in turn been strongly linked with Ferrari, and it could be seen to be a US-based offshoot of the Maranello concern…
Summerton, 22 – a former racewinner in the A1GP category – now competes in the Indy Lights championship, and confirmed via his Twitter feed that he is “working hard with Cypher towards being the American F1 team with an American driver.”
Cypher responded in turn via their own Twitter feed, and confirmed the story by writing: “We are in contact with Jonathan Summerton.”
