Up Front, by Mark Webber & Stuart Sykes
Paperback, © 2010 Pan MacMillan, ISBN 978140540037
Mark Webber’s first book, Up Front, went on sale yesterday and we at Richard’s F1 have been given the privilege of reviewing the title!
On the back of his most successful F1 season to-date, Webber gives his warts-and-all account of an incredible year that saw him as a championship contender right until the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
We all know the result of the final race – which saw Webber’s team-mate Sebastian Vettel take the crown at the final hurdle, but what we don’t know (until now) are some of the behind-the-scenes stories within the Red Bull camp, which found itself struggling to manage two ultra-competitive drivers who both had a realistic shot at the championship crown.
Beautifully photographed sourcing images from the sport’s best photographers, each chapter covers a race-by-race summary of the season, told with Mark’s typical frankness and razor-sharp wit.
Some of the back stories – particularly surrounding the controversies of the Turkish and British Grands Prix – are incredibly interesting, and readers will be given a first-hand insight into Webber’s thoughts on those weekends, and there are some absolute gold nuggets that few were ever aware of, until now…
But we’re not going to give the game away here! You’ll have to read the book for yourself!
Using our unique ‘Chequered Flags’ rating system, we award Up Front…
OUT OF A POSSIBLE 5.
