But the 29-year-old will remain on the grid with the Spanish tail-enders, having agreed to a deal with just two weeks to go until the season-opening Australian Grand Prix.
Liuzzi also confirmed that he had split with long-time manager Peter Collins and sourced a replacement in Enrico Zanarini, the manager of former F1 drivers Eddie Irvine and Giancarlo Fisichella.
Italian reports are claiming that the departure with Collins could have stemmed from the split with Force India, while Swiss reports are claiming that Liuzzi was paid some €2 million in severance fees by the Silverstone team.
For the first time, Liuzzi has talked semi-openly about the split, telling La Gazzetta dello Sport: “From my side, apart from many incidents of which many were not my fault, nothing went wrong.
“I’m not the boss of the team and the one who puts the money in made another choice,” he added, referring to team owner Vijay Mallya’s decision to promote Paul di Resta to Liuzzi’s seat after spending a year as the outfit’s Friday test driver.
“In any case, there is no reason to think about it anymore, and anyway we know that F1 is like that,” he added.
And Liuzzi knows he faces an uphill challenge with HRT, which will launch its new F111 with limited opportunity for much testing mileage before the Australian Grand Prix.
“This is a young team, it’s a new team and these steps in my career don’t scare me,” he told GP Update.
“I’ve done it before with other teams; I started with Red Bull when it was in its first year, with Toro Rosso in the first year, Force India the first year, so I think a lot of the time the people who talk a lot just don’t see the reality of what’s happening in Formula 1.
“It’s easy to talk from the outside, but I’m fully committed to this new challenge and I’m sure that we can grow.”
