Top Gear Great Adventures – Middle East, US & Albania Road Trips
DVD, © 2011 BBC Worldwide, 180 minutes – Released 2 June 2011, RRP $AU29.95
This bumper-loaded two-disc DVD contains three ‘Director’s Cut’ editions of the team’s last three ‘Great Adventures’ road trips to the United States, the Middle East and Albania, all from the show’s last two seasons and all exclusively reviewed on Richard’s F1.
In all, there’s some 25 minutes of exclusive, unseen footage packed within this title, along with a good assortment of extra features to keep devotees of the show entertained.
The US road trip sees Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond travel to the United States fresh from firing The Stig, and they head on a epic trip up the east coast of the country in a Mercedes-Benz SLS, Porsche 911 GT3 RS and the Ferrari 458 Italia.
The trip to the Middle East – titled its ‘Christmas Special’ – earned plenty of controversy, as the hosts set about to make a modern-day recreation of the journey undertaken by the Three Wise Men to Bethlehem, in no less unsuitable cars than three open-top cruisers! With an extra ten minutes of unseen footage, it also includes episode commentary from James May and the production crew.
The trip to Albania was also hugely popular – perhaps not in Albania itself – and the boys take a Rolls Royce Ghost, Bentley Mulsanne (disguised as a Yugo) and a Mercedes S65 AMG on a series of challenges to determine which is the most suitable mafia car for the former Communist state.
The two discs’ bonus features include:
The boys get in touch with their feminine side
Bored at the border – how to solve the crisis in the Middle East
A lap of the Virgin International Raceway with Jeremy Clarkson in the tail-happy SLS
Hammond and May do battle on the Virgin International Raceway
James May’s Yoga Masterclass
