The thirteenth series of this multi-award winning show is the fourth complete Top Gear series to be committed to DVD, and the attractively steel-cased three-disc edition is a must-have for any fan of the show.
Fresh from their forays in Vietnam, our three intrepid hosts are certainly no less ambitious in this series as they continue to explore the many facets of motoring through a series of incredible experiments and road tests.
There are so many highlights among the six hours of episodes. One of the best challenges includes the famous three-way ‘Race to the North’ from London to Edinburgh, with the hosts using modes of transport from 1949.
Other challenges include Richard Hammond testing the new Lamborghini Murciélago LP670-4 SV against a Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722 Edition on specially closed roads in Abu Dhabi.
Another favourite is James May’s trip to the United States to meet rally star Ken Block, who takes James on a race through his gymkhana circuit in his rally-tuned Subaru Impreza on a race against motocross star Ricky Carmichael.
There are a host of celebrity guests, including Michael Schumacher, actress Sienna Miller, sprinter Usain Bolt, AC/DC front man Brian Johnson and self-confessed car junkie Jay Leno.
One minor criticism is that the third disc in the set is labelled as having ‘Special Features’ loaded onto it, but it actually contained no special features.
