Craig Lowndes secured his fourth pole of the V8 Supercars season

Craig Lowndes has claimed pole position ahead of Saturday’s first of two races at Queensland Raceway.

After being fastest in Friday practice, the Triple 8 Holden driver continued with his red-hot form into today’s twenty-minute qualifying session, with his fastest lap of 1:09.8034 proving good enough to claim pole position by two-hundredths of a second.

Sharing the front row of the grid is Tim Slade, with the Stone Brothers Racing Ford driver securing his best ever qualifying result.

The second row is comprised of Rick Kelly and current championship leader Jamie Whincup, while Karl Reindler stormed to an impressive fifth-fastest, ahead of Lee Holdsworth.

The top ten is completed by Jason Bright, Steve Owen, Paul Dumbrell and David Reynolds.

It was a poor session for the factor Ford Performance Racing team, with Mark Winterbottom claiming twelfth and team-mate Will Davison starting two spots behind.

And the Holden Racing Team’s qualifying woes continued, with Garth Tander only managing the 20th-fastest time, with team-mate and defending champion James Courtney lining up 21st.

The first of today’s two 22-lap races starts at 3:15pm local time, with the finishing order of the first race determining the starting order for the second race, which starts just 15 minutes after the first race ends.
