Tomas Scheckter will join an expanded Sarah Fisher Racing team for the season-ending IndyCar race at Las Vegas. The South African will partner the team’s regular driver, Ed Carpenter.
The race will be Scheckter’s fourth IndyCar race of the season. His first came in a joint-entry effort by SH Racing and KV Racing Technology at Indianpolis. He later substituted for the injured Justin Wilson at Dreyer & Reinbold Racing for the round at New Hampshire, and appeared again at Baltimore in a joint-entry SH / D&R run car.
The round will be the first time this season that Sarah Fisher Racing has fielded a two-car team, having run Ed Carpenter at selected events throughout the season.
Better-known as an outfit more suited to oval racing, Carpenter qualified in the top-ten at Indianapolis and Texas, and has earned a trio of eleventh-placed finishes this season. The team’s occasional forays on road courses have proven far less successful, however, and Carpenter has struggled for pace at the tracks with right-hand turns.
For the mercurial Scheckter, this is an excellent opportunity for him to stake his claim for a full-time seat next season, and he will be relishing the opportunity to strut his stuff once again.
“I got a call from Sarah a while back, and to be quite honest, with the way their cars have been running this year, this was an opportunity that was hard to pass up,” he said.
“Sarah has done a great job and I’m proud to be part of the team. I’ve really enjoyed working with Ed in the past, and I’m looking forward to Vegas.”
