Whincup claimed back-to-back wins at Abu Dhabi

Jamie Whincup has secured back-to-back V8 Supercar wins at Abu Dhabi, leading home the same podium finishers in today’s opening twelve lap race around the Yas Marina Circuit.

As was the case in today’s earlier race, Whincup took the lead from polesitter Will Davison on the opening lap, but this time he managed to do so at the first corner, out-dragging the Ford driver off the grid to claim a lead he wouldn’t surrender.

Davison managed to apply pressure to the back of Whincup’s Holden in the opening laps, before the reigning champion began to pull away, winning by 2.8 seconds.

Shane van Gisbergen rounded out the podium positions, while Mark Winterbottom finished in fourth place, overtaking Lee Holdsworth on Lap 2, a move that allowed Garth Tander to slip through into fifth.

Holdsworth’s troubles weren’t over, with the Stone Brothers Racing driver dropping behind David Reynolds and Tim Slade before the end of the race after being tapped into a half-spin that allowed the pair by.
