Australian fashion figureheads Wayne Cooper and Kate Peck will trade the catwalk for the pit lane, after being announced as the latest sign-ups to the 2013 Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix’s Mazda6 Celebrity Challenge.
Regarded as one of Australia’s leading fashion designers, Cooper will don a completely different suit as he competes against nineteen other celebrity racers in this year’s fender-bending affair around the Albert Park Grand Prix circuit.
“I’ve had a go in go-karts, but never done anything like this before, so for me this is really about pushing myself to see how well I can do in something I’m new to,” Cooper said today.
“I obviously want to win it, but really I just don’t want to let myself down.”
The statuesque model and TV presenter knows all about the thrills of speed, with her duties last year giving her plenty of high-octane moments, including laps as a passenger of the famous Swisse F1x2 Seater Formula 1 car.
“I was at the event in 2012 as the event Ambassador, but plan on leaving in 2013 as the winner of the Mazda6 Celebrity Challenge,” she said. “It’s going to be so much fun.”
Peck and Cooper will be competing for top honours against a host of Australian and international guest racers, including fellow fashion figureheads Jessica Gomes, Rachael Finch and Ruby Rose. Also competing to be first across the finish line are Olympians Sir Chris Hoy and Anna Meares and TV host Mark Beretta.
