Sydney Olympic Park was forced to reshuffle its schedules and reschedule the V8 Supercars Grand Finale, the Sydney 500, a week later to accommodate for the Stereosonic Music Festival.
The new dates of December 6-8 were confirmed today after the venue realised it had double booked the Park, an awkward situation for the administrators if there is ever one!
The move means there will be an extra weekend break between the Sydney 500 and the Phillip Island event, perhaps giving teams a little extra time to prepare for their final opportunity to pick up championship points.
Olympic Park will have these two huge events on consecutive weekends, making it an interesting logistical challenge, but V8 Supercars CEO, Shane Howard, thinks it is worth it.
“It became quite clear that the venue could not support both major events on the same weekend. We have a fantastic relationship with Sydney Olympic Park so agreed a position that would best suit both events,” he said.
The Sydney 500, as yet without a naming rights sponsor, attracted over 150,000 spectators in 2012 and saw Craig Lowndes and Will Davison take the top spot on the podium for Races 29 and 30 respectively.
