The resurgent Fabian Coulthard has delighted his hometown fans by winning pole position for today’s second V8 Supercars Championship race at Pukekohe Raceway.
The Brad Jones Racing driver hustled his Holden Commodore around the high-speed circuit to clock the session’s fastest time of 1:02.6310 to edge out Craig Lowndes by just four-hundredths of a second.
Increasingly cloudy conditions made track conditions perfect for a closely-fought qualifying session, with the fastest eight drivers all managing to post times under the 1m03s barrier.
Reigning champion Jamie Whincup was third-fastest ahead of the FPR Fords of Will Davison and Mark Winterbottom. Garth Tander, David Reynolds, Jason Bright, Scott McLaughlin and James Courtney rounded out the top-ten.
Rick Kelly finished up an impressive twelfth-fastest and the quickest of the Nissan Altima, one spot ahead of Lee Holdsworth, who was quickest of the Erebus Motorsport AMG entries.
