Brad Jones Racing duo Jason Bright and Fabian Coulthard claimed a 1-3 in today's second qualifying session at Pukekohe Raceway

Jason Bright has narrowly edged out Jamie Whincup from claiming a qualifying sweep ahead of today’s two V8 Supercars Championship races at Pukekohe Raceway.

After the Red Bull Australia driver claimed pole in this morning’s earlier qualifying session that determined the first race’s starting order, Bright produced a last-gasp effort to snatch top spot from Whincup by a scant three-hundredths of a second.

Whincup had looked assured for a hat-trick of pole positions at the revamped circuit until the dying seconds, when Bright’s banzai lap-time of 1:02.6524 proved just enough to confine the reigning series champion to second place on the grid.

Holden claimed the first five grid positions in today’s second fifteen-minute session, with Bright’s teammate Fabian Coulthard managing another top-three qualifying performance in his Lockwood-sponsored entry, ahead of the two HRT Commodores of Garth Tander and James Courtney.

Mark Winterbottom was the fastest Ford runner in sixth spot, with the factory Ford team managing to get all four of its entries inside the top-twelve on the grid. The Davison brothers, Alex and Will, line up in eighth and ninth places, while David Reynolds completes the top-dozen grid spots.

V8 teenage sensation Scott McLaughlin was a fine seventh-fastest on his home track, while Craig Lowndes and Russell Ingall managed tenth and eleventh, respectively.
