Shell has returned as a sponsor of the #17 Dick Johnson Racing entry

The iconic red and yellow Shell logo will be emblazoned on Tim Blanchard’s #17 Dick Johnson Racing Ford Falcon this weekend as part of the new sponsorship deal with the massive oil company.

The car will be rolled out in red livery at the Barbagallo round with large Shell logos on the rear quarter panels and the roof, while Wilson Security still takes the more prominent position on the doors.

The reunification with Shell is a throwback to the oil giant's long-term sponsorship of the Dick Johnson Racing teamThe sponsorship deal is a throwback to the days when Shell was a major sponsor of the DJR team as the title backers from 1987 to 2004.

"It has been a great relationship over many, many years," team principal Dick Johnson said. "There are guys here at DJR who were part of the fabulous era with the Shell Falcons and Sierras.

"We all were very proud to see the Shell Pecten back on the flanks of the #17 Falcon once again."

Shell Australia country chair Ann Pickard said Shell has a proud history of partnership with both Dick Johnson and DJR, and were excited to see more red and yellow on car 17.

“We wish DJR well in Perth, and hope to see the team near the top of the grid,” she said.

Wilson Security will continue their support of the team on the ‘interim basis’ agreed to and announced at Symmons Plains.

CEO of Wilson, John McMellan talked about this in early April.

“Initially we stepped in to assist DJR with an immediate objective – that was to assist in ensuring they were at Adelaide,” explained McMellan.

“The team did a good job in ensuring we received commercial outcomes from the initial support we gave them.

“On reviewing this we have decided that there is an opportunity to extend our support and relationship on an interim basis with a focus on building a commercial plan around DJR and our Queensland business operations.

Let’s hope the struggling team can continue proving their mettle and remain on the grid!
