Today marks another very special milestone for the website, which celebrates four years of bringing you the best in motorsport news, analysis, features and exclusive interviews from around the world!

For those of you who’ve been with us since the beginning, the website started out as Richard’s F1 Blog, a one-man hobby site where I would jot down my feelings and observations of the F1 happenings around the world.

The very first ‘Richard’s F1 Blog’ logo – how times have changed!

At first, the readership was limited to a few of my friends, who referred their friends, and so on.

It took an age to write each article (in full HTML coding, no less!) and it wasn’t until two former F1 drivers – Gianni Morbidelli and Allen Berg – simultaneously accepted my long-shot-chance requests for an interview that we suddenly saw an explosion in readership.

The expansion into new territories brought with it the need to move the website to a new publishing platform and the decision to buy a domain name. We had plenty of choices to choose from, but ultimately became the decision we opted for.

After all, while we were still boutique and rapidly growing, we were quickly gaining a reputation for our adventurous slant on F1 reporting and our willingness to question the status quo in the sport we all love so much.

In came the first investment of  graphic designer, who put together our first major logo – inspired by, no less a forgotten F1 racer than the 1994 Larrousse Ford LH94! – and the website as you know it today was born.

More drivers past and present continued to accept our interview requests, and we continue to land what I believe are some of the best, most detailed, exclusive interviews you will find anywhere. It doesn’t matter if it’s a Mario Andretti or Sir Jack Brabham, or someone relatively unknown like a Marco Apicella or Giovanni Lavaggi – all of them have fascinating tales to tell. As our readership swelled to an audience in over 150 countries spanning all regions of the globe, so too did our ambitions, and we branched into covering other major championships, such as the IndyCar Series, FIA World Touring Car Championship and the V8 Supercars.

Before long, we became Australia’s premier motorsport news and analysis destination.

Our growing profile has given us some enormous opportunities, including accreditation to major motorsport film premieres and full FIA accreditation to a number of Grands Prix!

Publishers and distributors came knocking too. Before we knew it, we were being flooded with offers and products to review. Our office library has swelled to over 1,000 motorsport titles and it continues to grow.

We launched a fantastic online store with a great, affordable merchandise range being sold the world over to help fund the ongoing costs of keeping the website online – after all, none of the pockets a cent; it’s all done for the love of motorsport and sharing our passion with you.

Our readers stepped in and several have become regular writers and product reviewers for us – and it would be remiss of me not to extend a heartfelt thanks to the following people who have supported this journey over the last four years: my thanks to my current writing team of Matt Lennon (writer and video producer extraordinaire!), Yassmin Abdel-Magied, Josh Kruse and Tristan Clark.

Not least of all, I wish to thank our foundation writer Geoff Burke, whose idea it first was to get the website off the ground. At times this has been a frustrating and challenging journey filled with many obstacles, but Geoff has remained a persistent and supportive driving force in the background, and very much the brains behind the entire operation. Above all, he has been an amazing friend and utterly dedicated to the website. I cannot thank him enough for his contribution.

Last but not least, the website wouldn’t exist without the continued support of our many hundreds of thousands of readers who have been with over the last three years. We write for the joy of sharing our stories and ideas with you, and we simply wouldn’t be in business if it weren’t for your continued support.

To celebrate our fourth birthday and the start of the 2014 season with its many brand new regulations, the website will undergo a major overhaul in the off-season, with a brand new look and logos to boot. We’ve finalised the logo design and we’ll share it all with you soon!, 2012
