The 2014 IndyCar Series Championship will be staged as 18 races over fifteen race weekends, with organisers today announcing a final schedule for next year’s title battle.
With the Grands Prix of São Paulo and Baltimore losing their places on the calendar, the newest addition will be the inaugural Grand Prix of Indianapolis, which will take place on the ‘Brickyard’s’ infield road course layout, two weeks before the venue stages its 98th running of the Indianapolis 500.
Other changes include traditional Milwaukee Mile race being pushed back to a later calendar slot, while the two rounds at Texas – being at Texas Motor Speedway and Houston’s Reliant Park street circuit – have sensible been scheduled in the same month, although the wisdom of staging races in the height of Texas’ summer is certainly questionable.
While the entire championship will take place in North America, its tight five-month schedule will give the teams plenty of logistical and repair nightmares as the championship crisscrosses the United States of America, sometimes alternating between oval and road/street course races each weekend.
