Sebastian Vettel has been shortlisted as a ‘World Sportsman of the Year’ honour for the 2014 Laureus Awards.

The German, who won his fourth successive Formula 1 World Championship crown last season, will compete with runners Usain Bolt and Mo Farah, tennis ace Rafael Nadal, footballer Cristiano Ronaldo and basketballer LeBron James.

Vettel’s championship-winning Red Bull Racing team also received a nomination in the ‘World Team of the Year’ category. They will be up against the New Zealand ‘All Black’ rubgy team, the Brazilian and Bayern Munich football squads, the Bryan brothers tennis duo and the Miami Heat basketball team.

The 2014 awards will be held at Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday 26 March, in the same week as the Malaysian Formula 1 Grand Prix.
