Shane van Gisbergen continued his dominance this weekend at Albert Park, making it three from three in the MSS V8 Supercars Challenge.
The race showed glimpses of yesterday’s Race 2, with the same top three battling each other for majority of the race. However there was a bit more drama involved this time around.
Garth Tander and FPR recruit Chaz Mostert were fighting for position on the opening lap of the race, when Mostert got an edge and passed Tander, only to be clipped and spun around. The consensus so far is that it’s a racing incident, although the spin saw Dale Wood with nowhere to go but into the side of Mostert’s car. Both were out on the spot and the Safety Car was called while the mess was cleared.
To make things worse for FPR, the car Mostert was using this weekend was the spare car, as his original was still in repair from the carnage at the Clipsal 500. His team has now confirmed that he will take no further part this weekend.
Will Davison was also a casualty of the accident, he copped a slow puncture and had to pit for new tyres before the restart.
Scott Pye received a black flag after slamming his Wilson Security Falcon into the wall at Turn 5, adding to his poor weekend. Jason Bright joined him in retirement a lap later after the throttle jammed in his car.
Rain threatened the race on the last lap to make the race even more eventful, although it wasn’t enough to create a disturbance in the drivers.
