Top Gear’s infamous trio Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May are at it once again, with the twenty-first series of the world’s most popular car show hitting the retail shelves with a bumper 3-disc DVD edition.
Even after such a long time on their air – coupled with a few unwanted controversial appearances in the news headlines – the show still shows plenty of spirit and creativity after so many years, and this season had plenty of highlights.
The intrepid threesome embarks on a huge and potentially ‘glowing’ road trip across the Ukraine – airing just before the Russian invasion! – in three small cars with even smaller engines to see who can run out of fuel before they hit Chernobyl. They also relive the glory days of the 1980s in three ‘classic’ hot hatches, and have an appalling crack at creating a public safety awareness film campaign for the government.
Of course there are also plenty of new cars to shake down: Jeremy takes the McLaren P1 around Spa-Francorchamps and finds the Denish-built Zenvo STI beset by some woeful reliability issues; Richard takes Porsche’s 918 Spyder and the weird six-wheeled Mercedes Benz G63 AMG 6×6 for outings in the Emirates; while James takes Caterham’s latest models for a ride.
Top Gear: Series 21 is currently available at all good DVD retail stores.
And as if that wasn’t enough, the series includes an epic two part adventure across the wilds of Burma as the presenters take three lorries on what could be Top Gear’s toughest challenge to date.
