Red Bull Racing has secured a front row lockout ahead of race 19 at Hidden Valley raceway, with Craig Lowndes leading the charge.
Shane Van Gisbergen made a flying start to the session as David Reynolds had a slight off at Turn 5 but was quickly back on track without issue. With 15 minutes remaining it was Van Gisbergen, Garth Tander and Mark Winterbottom out in front with the majority of drivers leaving pitlane, mostly on soft tyres.
After spending some time in the garage, the Red Bulls finally went out on track with Jamie Whincup jumping from P22 to P1 after posting a 1.09.02. Whincup’s time remained unbeaten until his team-mate Lowndes set a flying lap of 1.08.75 and obviously not slowing down after turning 40 years old.
Todd Kelly set the first soft tyre lap with a 1.09.74, getting some good pace, and with less than 10 minutes remaining, Jamie Whincup and Craig Lowndes were yet to set a time.
Late in the session with 2/3 of the field completing a soft tyre lap, the majority gained a better time on their first flyer.
With 5 minutes remaining it was Lowndes, Whincup and Van Gisbergen on top. Reynolds, Courtney, Whincup and Coulthard were all into the 08’s but couldn’t out do the 888 driver.
The Start grid for Sundays race will be Craig Lowndes and Jamie Whincup sharing the front followed by Reynolds in third, Bright in fourth and Courtney in fifth.
