Hilmer Motorsport’s Facu Regalia has walked away from the Force India affiliated outfit after a poor start to the season.

The 2013 GP3 series runner-up has failed to score a point this season, only managing a best place of 17th and retiring from four of Facu Regaliathe eight races.

The Argentinian believed that his association with Force India would be in jeopardy had he not called it quits at the right time.

“After Austria I made the decision to stop competing with the team,” he said.

“I spoke to [team boss] Franz Hilmer and I gave him a number of reasons: the team wasn’t able to have a competitive car, I had setup problems, and engine issues throughout the season.”

Regalia also stated that had it not been for his budgeting issues he would have raced for DAMS, Racing Engineering, ART Grand Prix or Campos Racing.

He added that he was also considering offers to race in the new Formula E series.

“What I know is that, with my results in the championship so far, my presence in this programme was over as of September due to lack of results.”

“Personally I need a car to fight for top places, as I proved last year,” he continued.

Hilmer is one of two teams yet to score a point this season along with Venezuela GP Lazarus. A disappointing start to the season considering in their rookie year they managed to win four races.
