Lewis Hamilton has remained fastest overall in the third practice session, narrowly beating his team-mate Nico Rosberg by under 0.05 seconds.

Hamilton reported early on in the session that he was struggling to get the car stopped, using new Carbon Industrie brakes rather than his usual Brembo.

The gap between the medium and the soft tyre is a large one, with around 1.5 seconds separating the two compounds. Hamilton’s last run on the medium compound was a 1:25.682, when he moved to his qualifying simulation, he ended the session on a 1:24.048.

Bottas’ team-mate Felipe Massa was down the order in 11th, half a second off the Finn’s pace.

Both Force India’s found themselves well down the order, Nico Hulkenberg could only manage 17th with a best time of 1:26.035, which was almost two seconds slower than the Silver Arrows. Sergio Perez was a tenth behind in 18th position.

Kamui Kobayashi outpaced both Marussia drivers of Max Chilton and Jules Bianchi in 19th, with Marcus Ericsson 21st after he had a spin at Turn 11.
