Clamber into one of the vintage elevators in Sydney’s historic Dymocks Building and on its ninth floor you’ll find a treat for any motorsport fan and a favourite haunt for the RichardsF1.com team.
It’s the Automoto Bookshop, a decades-old business specialising in one of the largest collections of motoring titles: car and motorcycle books, motorsport books, a wide variety of workshop manuals as well as automotive, motorsport and motorcycle DVDs.
It would the best known specialist retailer of its kind in Australia, with literally thousands of new local and imported books, as well as rare first edition and second-hand publications. Many of the titles available here are featured nowhere else in Australia.
Run by the amiable duo of Anand Ponnaiya and Michael Barton, the Automoto Bookshop will become your new port of call for the latest and greatest motorsport titles going around. I have been a long-time customer as the store has moved from various locations in Sydney – it’s new home is perfectly centrally located!
If you’re looking for a special motorsport-themed gift, then you should definitely take a look here. And if you’re not in Sydney, don’t worry, their entire catalogue is accessible via their online store for you to order and ship worldwide.
It’s even a visiting spot for a few of the greats of Australian Formula 1 history. Legendary Brabham designer Ron Tauranac has been known to pay a visit from time to time, as have former 1970s F1 drivers Dave Walker and Vern Schuppan. That is a huge endorsement!
