Dušan Borković has been confirmed as Proteam Racing’s new driver for the 2015 FIA World Touring Car Championship season.
The Serbian driver will replace Mehdi Bennani, who switches to the Sébastien Loeb Racing team, which will field a pair of 2014-spec Citroën C-Elysée WTCCs in its debut season.
Borković made his WTCC debut in 2014 with Campos Racing driving one of its Chevrolet Cruzes (pictured above), placing fourteenth overall in the Drivers’ Championship standings. His best race result was a second-placed finish in the second race at Suzuka.
“I always wanted to drive Honda race car because of their amazing racing history. That is why I am really happy and looking forward to driving my new car and am hoping for great results,” Borković said.
“I am starting my second, hopefully better season with a new team and car. I am really grateful to Campos Racing team for our cooperation in my debut WTCC season. Together with JAS and Proteam I will have to learn fast about the Honda so that I can be ready for the pre-season tests.”
One challenge Borković faced was actually fitting in the team’s Honda Civic WTCC – the 30-year-old is 2.07 metres tall, but he confirmed he was able to get behind the wheel of the team’s JAS-built cars.
“I managed to fit in the Honda Civic TC1, but I believe they should build a larger cockpit for my size,” he added.
Borković will have his first official hit-out behind the wheel of the Honda Civic in next month’s official pre-season test in Spain.
