The Lada WTCC team will skip the World Touring Car Championship’s official pre-season test at Barcelona, which is held on February 13.

The team – which will switch to a new Vesta model from its race-winning Granta – has decided to use the time to maximise development time on the all-new car ahead of the WTCC season-opener at Argentina on March 6-8.

“We have already made a successful test of a new engine and now continue work with the new car, the Vesta,” team statement said.

“The schedule is very hard, engineer and mechanics work days and nights, because we want effectively prepare for the start of the season in Argentina.

“As the team is building a totally new car and the off-season break is very short this year, we have decided to focus on the preparation at our technical base at Magny Cours in France. This was done in order to save time and maximise production and engineering resources within the test programme – that’s why we will miss the collective test in Barcelona.”

Lada won two races in 2014 with Rob Huff, who will race alongside James Thompson and Mikhail Kozlovskiy this season.
