The two Red Bull cars of Jamie Whincup and Craig Lowndes were far from threatening in the qualifying session, spending most of their time in the midfield. Whincup seemed to struggle with the balance of his car and will start from ninth, while Lowndes will start further down in 13th.

Michael Caruso suffered electrical issues and was only able to complete one lap before retiring from the session.

David Reynolds continued his fine form from practice in the Bottle-O Falcon ending the session in fourth place, two one-hundredths of a second quicker than Shane Van Gisbergen for Team Tekno.

Kiwi Scott McLaughlin was sixth for Gary Rogers Motorsport while Fabian Coulthard was a fraction slower in seventh.

Race 1 will start at 2.20pm Friday the 13th.
