Lotus F1 team has added Adderly Fong alongside Carmen Jorda to their development driver roster for the 2015 season.

The 25-year-old previously had a relationship with Sauber, which saw him get behind the wheel and contest the first practice session in Abu Dhabi last year.

“This is a great opportunity to further my racing career; I’ll be able to learn how an F1 team operates during race weekends as an integral part of the team and these invaluable experiences are going to lay the foundations of my future development as an F1 driver,” Fong said.

Lotus CEO Matthew Carter said that Fong’s signing will help him grow as a driver and help strengthen the team with his development input.

“We have an aggressive development programme with the E23 so [Fong] will be able to both learn from our engineers and race drivers as well as contribute to our car through the course of the season.

“We have a very strong driver line-up which Adderly will join so he has a great opportunity to learn ahead of him.

“We are committed to moving back up the competitive order and Adderly’s work behind the scenes will be invaluable in assisting us to achieve this.”

Fong will juggle his development driver duties with his GP3 series campaign for Koiranen GP as well as a GT Asia season.

After two seasons in GP3 Fong has only placed in the top 10 once, when he finished 9th racing for Status Grand Prix at Silverstone.
