Sage Karam and Simona De Silvestro will remain in the field for this weekend’s inaugural Indy Grand Prix of Louisiana at NOLA Motorsport Park after extending their deals with Chip Ganassi Racing and Andretti Autosport respectively.
Both drivers took part in the season-opening round in St Petersburg two weeks ago, with Ganassi development driver Karam (pictured above) finishing 19th, one place behind the ex-Sauber test driver de Silvestro.
“I’m honoured to be back in the #8 car this weekend at NOLA,” said Karam. “I’m looking forward to applying what I learned in St Petersburg to this weekend.
“We’ve run a few tests here so I’m definitely more comfortable in the car than I was in St Petersburg.”
De Silvestro, whose appearance in Florida a fortnight ago was her first in an IndyCar since the end of the 2013 season, said that she was looking forward to the chance to move on from an incident-filled race on the streets of St Petersburg.
“It’s great to get another shot in the car and improve on everything we learned,” the Swiss driver, who will also drive Andretti’s fifth entry in the 99th running of the Indianapolis 500 in May, said.
“I’m really looking forward to being able to work with everyone again, and hopefully have a better race,” she added.
In support of the local community this weekend, De Silvestro will be carrying Ochsner Health System’s branding and the Racing for Kids logo on her #25 entry.
