Sage Karam and Sebastián Saavedra will share the fourth Chip Ganassi Racing entry for the remainder of the 2015 Verizon IndyCar Series season.
Karam the 2013 Indy Lights Champion, who is contracted to Ganassi as a development driver, took the wheel of the team’s #8 entry for the first two races of the season at St Petersburg and NOLA, earning finishes of 19th and 18th respectively.
Under the new arrangement, he will alternate with Saavedra over the next four rounds – driving at the Grand Prix of Alabama and Indianapolis 500 – before racing at every round until the penultimate race of the season at Pocono Raceway.
“I’m grateful to Chip and the team for their ongoing commitment to me, and I can’t wait to get back in the car at Barber,” Karam said. “I just take things one day at a time and nothing has really changed for me since I started as a development driver here – when Chip calls, I’m ready to go race.”
Saavedra (pictured top), who has been available since parting with KV Racing at the end of last season, will race at this weekend’s Long Beach round, as well as the Grand Prix of Indianapolis – where he earned pole last year – and the final round at Sonoma Raceway.
“It’s good to be back in the series,” said the Colombian. “I’m very grateful to Chip and the team, which have had an incredible history in the sport, and specifically in the Indianapolis 500.
“I’m looking forward to Long Beach and doing everything I can to help get the #8 car to the front.”
Saavedra will also compete in a fifth Ganassi Racing entry – run in conjunction with AFS Racing – at the Indianapolis 500 oval race.
