Hopscotch Films, distributors of the Rush movie and 1: Life on the Limit documentary, have packaged the two films together in the ultimate celebration of two works which have enjoyed success in the cinemas over the last two years.
Ron Howard’s Rush garnered plenty of praise for its high-quality production and storyline in recapturing the thrilling battle for the 1976 Formula 1 World Championship between Niki Lauda and James Hunt.
Set against the golden age of Formula 1 racing, Rush portrays the fast paced, action packed and exhilarating true story of one of the greatest rivalries the sport has ever witnessed – Hunt versus Lauda, and their illustrious Formula 1 racing teams, McLaren versus Ferrari.
Privileged, charismatic and handsome English playboy, James Hunt (played by Chris Hemsworth) could not be more different from his reserved and methodical opponent, Austrian born Niki Lauda (Daniel Brühl).
Rush follows their chequered personal lives both on and off the track and charts their rivalry from its inception in Formula 3. Here they competed viciously against each other until Lauda’s superior business acumen and surgeon like precision behind the wheel propelled him all the way to Formula 1; eventually landing him the number-one spot at Ferrari.
It was not long, however, before unruly Hunt forged his own path, and into the hearts of a nation, dramatically seizing the World Championship crown from Lauda’s grasp and proving to the critics, and more importantly himself, that there was real substance beneath his playboy exterior. Polar opposites pitted against each other in the most dangerous sport in the world, Hunt and Lauda were pushed to the breaking point of their physical and psychological endurance.

Conversely, 1: Life on the Limit is an ction documentary that brings the glamour, speed, danger, and excitement of Formula 1 racing to the big screen, entirely using live-action footage from the championship archives.
Narrated by acclaimed actor and self-confessed F1 junkie Michael Fassbender, it tells the story of the golden age of Formula 1, when the sport became terrifyingly dangerous and the drivers were like rock stars with charisma and raw talent, but with many of them paying the ultimate price. 1: Life on the Limit tells the stories of the drivers who raced on the edge and the figureheads who stood up to change the sport forever. Our complete review of 1 can be read here.
There’s no distinct advantage to purchasing this two-disc version as opposed to getting both titles separately – the content is utterly identical – but if you don’t have either film (shame on you to start with!) or are looking to introduce Formula 1 to a potential new fan, then buying this double-disc offer might be the way to go.
The Rush / 1: Life on the Limit double feature is available on DVD and Blu Ray at all major DVD retailers.
