Following an incident in pit lane where the Williams of Valtteri Bottas was released out of its pit box into the way of Daniel Ricciardo, the Stewards have fined Williams €2,000 for an unsafe release.

The race Stewards examined video evidence and came to the conclusion that a breach of article 23.12 (a) had been violated by the Williams team.

“It is considered that the release was unsafe as car 3 had been released and was too fast approaching,” a statement from the FIA read.

“At the hearing the team manager acknowledged that it was ‘too close’. The fact that car 3 did not have to take avoiding action, mitigates the penalty.”

Bottas escaped sanction from the Stewards and will start the Singapore Grand Prix without receiving a grid demotion in seventh place.
