The final round of the 2015 GP2 season sees the series following the Formula 1 circus to the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi. With the title having already been wrapped up by Stoffel Vandoorne and second place seemingly going to Alexander Rossi, the battle for third in the championship is yet to be decided with only seven points separating Sergey Sirotkin and Rio Haryanto.
Despite failing to score any points last weekend, Rossi holds a 30.5 point lead over Sirotkin and a further 37.5 points over Haryanto.
Last round the series re-visited Bahrain in order to make up for the cancelled race in Germany. Russian Time’s Mitch Evans was at his brilliant best, securing a double podium finish which included a win in the Sprint Race which promoted him to fifth in the championship standings ahead of Alex Lynn.
Vandoorne won his sixth Feature Race, again demonstrating his dominance in the series as he crossed the finish line 13-seconds ahead of his rookie team-mate Nobuharu Matsushita. The one-two result secured ART Grand Prix the team’s championship and the fourth crown in the history of the series.
This weekend Pirelli has selected the medium and the super soft compound tyres, and drivers will be faced with changing track conditions in each of their sessions, as practice will take place during the day and the Feature Race will be run after the sun has set.
The GP2 teams and drivers will also hang back after the race weekend has been completed for the post-season test taking place between the 2nd and 4th of December. Prema Powerteam – a top Formula 3 team – will make their first appearance in the GP2 paddock where they will replace the outgoing Lazarus squad.
For the first time since the beginning of the season, there will be no driver changes heading into this weekend’s race in Abu Dhabi.
