A photographic book about pick-ups – or ‘utes’, as they are better known in Australia – might seem to be one of our more unusual product reviews on RF1, but this book is a veritable tribute to the country’s favourite car.
It doesn’t matter whether you live in the city, the country or the outback. It doesn’t matter whether your ute is your daily commute, your campsite or beachside traveller, or whether it faces the toughest of elements in dusty and dirty remote environments. It truly is an Australian car.
Beaut Aussie Utes showcases the best of the country’s utes – and their passionate owners – in photographs taken at shows and musters around the country.
Its author is Josh Bryce – a concreter by trade – travelled around the country to meet Australian ute owners and their vehicles, taking their photographs and capturing their stories about their treasured vehicles.
The settings can be as far and wide as a ute muster in Darwin or an outback Bachelors & Spinsters Ball in Western Australia. Their owners can just have acquired their licenses, or be old-timers who have travelled the length and breadth of the country. Every one of them has a story, and there are a few iconic classics in this collection that’s as varied as the characters gracing this book’s pages.
Beaut Aussie Utes is available for purchase at major book resellers (RRP AU$24.99). Our review copy was kindly supplied to us by Hachette Australia.
