Rio Haryanto has been slapped with a three-place grid penalty and demoted two penalty points, after he crashed into Romain Grosjean’s Haas in the opening few minutes of FP3 in the pit lane.

The Stewards reached the conclusion that Haryanto did not pay attention to the approaching car (Grosjean) which was in the fast lane.

Given the fact that Manor is still a fair way off the pace, the grid penalty may not have a huge effect on the Indonesian’s Formula 1 debut, even if the decision was quite harsh.
