Nico Rosberg completed 119 laps around the Circuit de Catalunya for Mercedes in what will be his only test session for the season.

Mercedes spent the day trialling mechanical and brake setups to try and optimise the car heading into the Monaco Grand Prix next weekend.

“It was a good day, a good day of testing. Learned a lot, made a lot of progress and that has been important, I’m pleased about that,” Rosberg said.

“We tested some mechanical stuff, something on the brakes, just some different things to try and make progress because we never test. We need to use days like this, they are very, very important.”

“We tried some mechanical stuff on the front suspension, then we tried some stuff on the brakes, so that’s just two examples.”

Rosberg has won the Monaco Grand Prix the past three years running, so his confidence is running high despite the crash at the Spanish Grand Prix with teammate Lewis Hamilton.

“Of course I’m confident going there [Monaco], yeah. I look forward to it and I would like to win the race.”
