Nico Hülkenberg will drop one place on the grid for tomorrow’s German Grand Prix after Force India used a set of super soft tyres that were not allocated for qualifying.
The team was meant to hand back the super soft compound to Pirelli at the conclusion of the final practice session, however a mix up between tyre sets occurred in the garage and the wrong set was fitted to Hülkenberg’s car in Q1.
“During Q1 tyres without appropriate identification were used,” a statement from the FIA read.
“The team returned electronically the wrong set of tyres and used these in Q1.”
As a result, the German was demoted one grid place and will now line up eighth on the grid for Sunday’s 67-lap race.
