Red Bull motorsport advisor Dr. Helmut Marko has rubbished claims that Pierre Gasly will race in Singapore instead of Daniil Kvyat.

Gasly had appeared on Spanish TV’s Movistar network before the Italian Grand Prix, and reportedly said that he had been told by a Renault representative that he would be racing in Singapore.

However, after the race Marko quashed the rumours by saying there would be no question Kvyat would race at the Singapore Grand Prix as well as see out his contract for the rest of the season.

“Kvyat will definitely be in the Toro Rosso in Singapore,” Marko said. “Also for the rest of the season.”

Marko had not been aware of the comments Gasly had said to the Spanish network, and will seemingly come down hard on the Red Bull junior if the situation isn’t a lost in translation mishap.

“I have to check on this story. I just heard it here for the first time. I cannot imagine that Gasly is so stupid to make these comments.”

“We are deciding who is sitting in the car and he also won’t be in the car on a Friday. He will be in a simulator on the Friday, but not in the car.”

Gasly is currently leading the GP2 series with PREMA Racing, and was on course for a Feature Race victory in Italy until a mistake by race control sent the safety car out to collect the wrong car, seeing the Frenchman finishing in fourth position.
