Audi has unveiled a striking new paint scheme for its 2017-18 FIA Formula E Championship campaign. The German carmaker took the covers off its newly-livered e-tron FE04 challenger, which will be piloted by an unchanged driver pairing of reigning champion Lucas di Grassi and Daniel Abt.
Audi’s involvement in the Formula E Championship stretches back to its inception in 2014-15 when it followed the Abt team’s foray into the all-electric series.
In July this year, Audi announced that it had taken over the Abt team to create a full works operation for the 2017-18 campaign.
Under its former ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport moniker, the team has twice finished runner-up in the Teams’ Championship standings and claimed a total of six race wins by di Grassi.
Di Grassi took revenge on long-time rival Sébastien Buemi and narrowly beat the Renault e.dams driver to claim the 2016-17 Drivers’ Championship title, a year on from the Swiss driver’s own title success.
In contrast to the red, yellow and green scheme run by the team over the past three seasons, the FE04 paint job marks a significant change with white and green the predominant colours.
Di Grassi and Abt’s cars will feature subtle differences in colours to help spectators more easily identify the two drivers; Abt’s car features a red roll hoop and rear wing in contrast to Di Grassi’s car (pictured above).
The team also confirmed that long-time Audi endurance driver Allan McNish, a two-time Le Mans 24 Hours winner with the carmaker, has been appointed as its new Team Principal.
