The World Touring Car Championship cannot seem to escape the wet weather which blighted its inaugural visit to China’s Ningbo International Speedpark in mid-October.
A typhoon passing between China and Japan has delayed the WTCC container shipment to the Twin Ring Motegi circuit, which plays host to this weekend’s Race of Japan round.
As a result, the Free Practice 2, Qualifying and MAC3 sessions will all take place on Sunday. The Free Practice 1 session has been delayed to late afternoon on Saturday to allow time for the shipment to make the three-hour journey north from Tokyo.
“Unfortunately, the weather is something we cannot control and we hope fans watching on TV and making the trip to Twin Ring Motegi won’t experience too much inconvenience,” François Ribeiro, Head of the WTCC’s promoter Eurosport Events, said.
”In DHL, the WTCC’s Official Logistics Partner, our other logistical consultants and operational staff, we have the perfect team of people working to ensure delays are kept to a minimum. And while it’s going to be a busy Sunday, we have managed similar timetable congestion effectively in the past. We look forward to a great show.”
