The FIA has published the entry list for the 2018 Formula 1 World Championship season, which confirms the rookie drivers’ race number choices and new names for several teams.
The season’s two rookies, Sauber’s Charles Leclerc and Williams’ Sergey Sirotkin, will race with numbers 16 and 35 respectively.
Following its announcement that Aston Martin has joined as its title sponsor, Red Bull Racing will be officially known as ‘Aston Martin Red Bull Racing’.
Another outfit with a new carmaker association is Sauber, which has added the Alfa Romeo brand to its team name. It is yet to be seen whether the Swiss team’s customer Ferrari engines will be re-badged in deference to the FIAT-owned car company.
Scuderia Toro Rosso has also had a name change. The Italian team will now be known as ‘Red Bull Toro Rosso Honda’, including its parent company and new engine partner in its entry name.
Honda’s former partner McLaren has changed its name to ‘McLaren F1 Team’.
The Force India team is still listed with its Sahara Force India moniker, although it is expected to apply and be approved for a formal name change before the start of the season.
