Sebastian Vettel refused to take a more cautious approach in final practice for the Singapore Formula 1 Grand Prix. His aggressive style around the Marina Bay Street Circuit saw him tag the wall in Friday’s second practice session, but the German threw his Ferrari between the barriers en route to the fastest overall time.

The four-time World Champion led a Ferrari 1-2 on the timesheets, finishing three-tenths of a second clear of teammate Kimi Räikkönen as the Italian team dominated proceedings in the final one-hour session.

Their immediate rivals Mercedes tried vainly to keep pace, but Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas still found themselves over half a second adrift of Vettel’s ultimate pace.

Red Bull Racing continued a Noah’s Ark theme on the timesheets, but were a disappointing fifth- and sixth-fastest at a circuit where the RB14 chassis was expected to excel. Daniel Ricciardo outpaced teammate Max Verstappen by less than seven-hundredths of a second, although neither driver spent much time on the Hypersoft tyre compound that will be used heavily in this evening’s qualifying session.

Romain Grosjean claimed ‘best of the rest’ honours for the Haas F1 Team, with the Frenchman leading a tight midfield scrap ahead. He finished ahead of the Force India pairing of Esteban Ocon and Sergio Pérez, who both showed improved speed after being relatively off the pace in Friday’s two practice sessions.

McLaren’s Fernando Alonso rounded out the top ten, with the gap between him and sixteenth-placed Charles Leclerc’s Sauber spanning just 0.6 seconds.
